A Call From The School
You Never Know What You’re Going To Hear
I received a call from my son's school.
“Hello,” I frantically answered.
The teacher introduced herself as the 4th-grade administrator and mediator. What an impressive title I thought. She told me that everything was OK. I let out a long sigh of relief.
My son was involved in a handwashing/football scandal on the playground. One of the boys accused another boy of not washing his hands in the restroom. He told his friends and they refused to toss a football with a kid that didn’t wash their hands.
As the mediator continued to talk about the incident, she paused, and we both laughed. We both understood that in this chaotic world that we live in, this call was frivolous. We couldn’t stop laughing, but then we composed ourselves.
The mediator told me that the boys had to resolve their issues. They had to talk it out or have their football privileges taken away. You better believe the boys found a solution. Imagine if our tweens, teens, and adults could do the same thing. Talk it out. Come up with a solution. Those fourth graders figured it out quickly.
“Thank you for calling I said and thank you for all you do.”
“You have no idea how good that felt hearing that,” she said. “Have a great day.”
“You too.”
For clarity purposes, the boys tossed the football, they didn’t play a full-on game of football.
